A Mentor Who Believed in Me Before I Believed in Myself
I was only 19 years old when I had the blessing of meeting Pastor Marcus Oliver. At the time, I had recently dropped out of college and had no clear direction for my future. I wasn't sure what came next, but Pastor Marcus saw potential in me long before I could see it in myself.
He encouraged me to apply for a position with Cardinal Health and personally walked me through every step of the hiring process. From preparing my résumé to coaching me through the interview, he invested his time and wisdom into helping me succeed. Thanks to his guidance, I was offered the job. That opportunity became the foundation for my career.
A Mentor Who Challenged Me to Dream Bigger
Not long after I started working, Pastor Marcus asked me a simple question:
"Where do you want to be in five years?"
My answer was modest. I told him I simply wanted to earn more than my parents were making at the time. He smiled and said he believed I would far exceed that goal—and he was right. His encouragement didn't stop with words. He equipped me with practical leadership advice, challenged me to continue growing, and celebrated each promotion along the way. Within just a few years, I had exceeded the financial goals I once thought were out of reach. Pastor Marcus had a unique ability to help people believe they were capable of more than they imagined.
A Spiritual Father Who Changed My Perspective
His mentorship extended far beyond my career. I knew God was calling me into youth ministry, but Pastor Marcus saw an even greater future. He continually encouraged me that one day I would become a Youth Pastor. In 2024, that calling became reality when I accepted a staff position as Youth Pastor at my local church. Looking back, I realize that what impacted me most wasn't just his advice—it was his presence. My father struggled with drug addiction throughout my entire life, and my stepfather was emotionally absent. Because of that, I never truly experienced the guidance of a father figure.
Pastor Marcus stepped into that gap. He became the spiritual father I desperately needed. He didn't spend his time criticizing me or telling me everything I was doing wrong. Instead, he encouraged me, believed in me, and constantly challenged me to become the man God created me to be. Whether we were talking about leadership, marriage, finances, ministry, or even business ideas, he always made time to invest in me. Whenever life became difficult, I knew I could count on him to pray with me. His influence completely changed how I viewed myself, my future, and my relationship with God.
Carrying Pastor Marcus Oliver's Legacy Forward
Today, my greatest desire is to continue the legacy Pastor Marcus left in my life.
I want to invest in young people who, like me, are searching for direction and longing for a godly mentor. I hope to partner with them the same way Pastor Marcus partnered with me—helping them change their thinking, discover their purpose, and pursue more than they ever believed possible.
His legacy isn't measured only by what he accomplished during his lifetime.
It lives on through the people he mentored, encouraged, and inspired to become leaders who now pour into the lives of others.
